· Always wear a seat belt, and ensure everyone in the car buckles up. An unrestrained passenger can cause injury to others in the car, should an accident occur.
· Place belongings (book bags, purses, computers, groceries, etc.) in the trunk. If you don’t have a trunk, secure them with a cargo net or in a seat belt. In an accident, unsecured items can become projectiles causing serious harm to passengers.
· The legal drinking age is 21. Parents: Talk with your children about not drinking alcohol and teach them not to get into a car driven by one of their peers who has been drinking.
· If the occasion involves alcohol, have a game plan by designating a driver or using alternative transportation. Drunk driving is 100 percent preventable.
Attached is a sign template, which was provided by Anheuser Busch, outlining these tips. We hope that you will hang it in your workplace as a reminder to your employees.
Anheuser Busch is emphasizing the importance of attentive driving by asking employees to sign the “Hang Up & Drive” pledge (below). We hope you will use this pledge also as a World Safety Day reminder to your employees. After all, these are our roads and it’s our responsibility to help keep them safe.
I PLEDGE TO "HANG UP AND DRIVE" AND COMMIT TO DRIVE AS RESPONSIBLY AS I CAN. BEGINNING RIGHT NOW, I WILL DO MY PART TO HELP PUT AN END TO DISTRACTED DRIVING BY REFRAINING FROM TEXTING OR DIALING WHILE DRIVING.
