Charleston, WV (June 1, 2015) – The West Virginia Oil Marketers & Grocers Association (OMEGA), an organization representing convenience stores, independent grocers and petroleum marketers across West Virginia, raised $79,615 to help the children and families cared for by the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia during the “Every Child Deserves A Loving Home” Campaign, organization representatives announced today.
“Our members – the hundreds of local convenience and grocery stores West Virginians shop in every day – are very proud of this effort to make a difference in children’s lives and we are very appreciative of the public who truly supported this campaign,” said Jan Vineyard, President of OMEGA.
OMEGA-member convenience and grocery stores partnered with the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia to raise funds that will be used to support child assistance programs, such as emergency child shelters, foster care, adoption, mentoring, early intervention and numerous other family support programs throughout the state. Brightly colored, Mother’s Day-themed, paper flowers were sold for one dollar at nearly 500 OMEGA-member convenience and grocery stores from April 10 – May 10 across West Virginia.

Each year, federal, state and local motor carrier enforcement authorities conduct a three-day nationwide roadside inspection and enforcement blitz to check for compliance with federal motor carrier safety regulations (FMCSR). Both interstate and intrastate petroleum marketers engaged in the transportation of fuel in a commercial motor vehicle are subject to the FMCSR. This year’s enforcement blitz will take place June 2-4 on interstate, secondary and local roadways nationwide. In preparation for the blitz, petroleum transporters should make sure that they are currently in full compliance with federal and state CMV and CDL driver regulations.

Charleston, W.Va. (May 20, 2015) –A recent national study by the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) shows that more than one in four Americans (27%) have indicated that they will take more time on vacation trips this summer, while 86% of those vacationers say they will travel by car.
Sixty-one percent of study respondents cited affordability as the top reason they plan to travel by car. That’s up from 54% last summer when gas prices were just over $1 more per gallon, on average nationally.
While more vacationers will be traveling by car, they also indicated they will be staying relatively close to home. Four in ten say that they will vacation within their state but regardless of the length of their trip, vacationers on the road this summer say they plan to stop along the way, whether to use the bathroom, get gas or food and drinks – making convenience stores a popular destination to fulfill these needs.
